Default How to: Stop that pesky e-brake rattle.

Another write-up on the srtforums...but not on here. I decided to do this today after the re-wire mod because i know im sick of listening to my e-brake rattle. This is a super simple and fast fix.

    Tools needed:
    Wire snips
    Phillip screwdriver

    Supplies needed:
Wire coat hanger or peice of steel wire

#1...Release the e-brake (make sure the car dont roll). Take out the center counsole insert by removing the 8 screws that hold it in...or in my case 7 lol. The write-up i read said to remove the whole center counsole...but that doesnt need to be done.

#2...Locate the little toothed guy doing all the rattling, you will be able to move it side to side with your finger.

#3...Cut a peice of wire estimate of 6" long or cut the hoop off a wire hanger...bend them to a kinda tight U. Insert it between the side plate and the toothed guy making all the noise.

#4...Push it all the way in...and the toothed guy shouldnt wiggle anymore.

#5...Put the insert back in, start up the car and see if it worked...i know it did with mine!

Same here. I have had this damn squeak coming from above the rear seat somewhere for months, and it is driving me crazy! Hard to find a squeak when you are driving and the sound is all the way behind the rear seat somewhere.

But thanks for the write-up!!!!!!! Good info to have in case I do get "The Rattle".

heh... theres a rattle in my driver's a pillar, the dash by the gauges, the radio bezel, the radio itself, and the center console right by where the two cupholders are. Makes quite the racket around 75mph. I just usually drown it out with music becasue i absolutely hate the rattles but dont know quite how to fix them.

Yeah i have more rattles as well....all coming from the dash and pillars.

My e-brake one was really bad...expecially sitting at idle. I always held the handle till i started moving again lol.

I have a damn rattle that I haven't quite figured out. Its constant and loud and occurs on any bumpy roads and immediately goes away if I engage the break pedal at all. Even without pushing the brake pedal in enough to slow the car down or anything it stops immediately. That wouldn't be the e-brake cable correct? Not the calipers/rotors... any thoughts?

i dont think that would be the e-brake... maybe you got a loose caliper or pad? lol all i know is it would piss me off to the point where i made it stop.
