Default SRT-4 VS Cobalt SS Turbo

Coming home from work on 45 I came across a Cobalt SS Turbo (Yellow) but it definietly didn't pull like it was stock. We raced from 70-120MPH and I won by only a car length each time. I know I'm not up to par on my DSP tune yet but that sucker was moving! We were at 120 in what seemed like a blink of the eye. Fun race though, we went twice and each result was the same.

I pulled on him in 3rd, then it was dead even to 120. Did not seem like a stock Cobalt SS, I've slaughtered plenty of those, lol.

Well you donīt see those ones down here, but I donīt think that they can pull harder than a srt-4, at least not the stock ones.

I thought you guys didnīt like to race on the street...

It's not that we don't like to. It's just that we don't encourage it on the site is all. I'd be very impressed to find anybody on this site who hasn't hammered it on the street a time or two.

Completely agree - I don't go searching for races - but if the opportunity presents itself, I have been known to let lose!

I haven't run across a turbo one. Is there different badge or a way to tell the 2 apart???

As to an occasional street run depends on when, where, who, and the mood I'm in. I try not to, I definitely don't go to 120 mph, you da man, but I have given her hell then brought it back down fast. I can't afford to get popped.

I miss out on several a week because of different factors ...... Kids in the Car , Driving G/F's Car , etc: etc:
But the biggest issue for me is Maturity level of other Driver ..... It has gone way way down over the years .
Maybe because I'm older now ? Who knows ? What I do know is there is little to no respect shown on the street anymore .
Don't even get me Started on Etiquette ...... that is Gone .... IMO .

There are minor differences cosmetically between the supercharged Cobalt SS and the turbo version. The turbos have 18-inch split five rims with Brembo brakes, They have a "honeycomb" style grill mesh compared to the slotted grill in the supercharged version, and finally the turbos have a real tiny badge under the SS that says "Turbocharged." Alot of these turbo Cobalt SS guys are running an extremely popular tune called the Trifecta tune. It pumps output upwards of 300 hp and 300 ft. tq. There is also a GM stage kit out for them as wel...Like the Stage 1 for the Caliber SRT4 the GM version also bumps HP and TQ. to right around the 300 mark.

Yeah, the turbo'd SS version is pretty quick with a mild tune. Similar to the Evo, a few improvements make the whole package pretty quick.

I test drove one just before picking up my car and wasn't all that thrilled with it. The whole package seemed very cheaply assembled and the launch control is pretty sloppy. Ended up shying away from it...

The Turbocharged versions have been far more renowned for their handling rather than straight line. They now hold the FWD record at Nurburgring I do believe. Would I ever DRIVE one again, yes. Would I buy one, a BIG FAT NO. Also, these will not beat SRTs stock for stock, keep up maybe, but not win.

Well my car is far from stock and he was keeping up just fine with me. I have no idea what he had under the hood but outside looked stock as stock can be. Didn't even have the huge ass wing. I knew it was turbocharged because thats the emblem it had on the back. At first I thought supercharged till I got further up and read it.

Right, they had numerous exterior accessory packages for them when I was looking. They're quick, no doubt. Just not for me.

I've driven the turbocharged version a couple of times, and I agree that they don't feel as raw and fast as an NSRT4, however they do infact run stock-for-stock with an 04-05 Neon SRT4 if not beat it. The power numbers for the Cobalt SST (Stock) are 260 hp and 260 FT. Tq. It'll run the 1/4 mile anywhere from 13.7 - 13.9 secs...which is pretty much right on par with a stock NSRT4.
